A distinction between different types of disease published 1965, by the World Health Organization (WHO) in its “Recommendations for the classification and diagnosis.

In 1997, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) changed the criteria for classification and diagnosis, which in 1998 by the WHO and in 2000.

By 1997, diabetes mellitus had been classified by the type of treatment into five groups:  NIR: (non-insulin-requiring) treatment without external insulin, for example, only with diet and/or oral antidiabetic agents.  IRC: (requiring insulin for control) In addition to the body’s own insulin is also an external insulin required to lower elevated blood glucose levels.  IRS (insulin required for survival).

External insulin injection is needed for survival. This is according to the old classification of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes with a much reduced or ceased their own insulin production.  IGT (impaired glucose tolerance) impaired glucose tolerance.   ND (non diabetic) is not suffering from diabetes.

Since1998, all organizations that share an affection for the cause are split into the following four categories (types or classes):  Type-1 diabetes mellitus: specific destruction of beta cells of pancreatic islets of the pancreas, usually leading to absolute insulin deficiency.  Type 1a: immune-mediated (autoimmune disease).  Type 1b: idiopathic (unknown cause).  Type-2 diabetes mellitus: different combinations of insulin resistance, hyperinsulinism, relative insulin deficiency, secretion.  Type 2a: non-obese (overweight). Type 2b: with obesity.

Other specific types of diabetes:

A: genetic defects of the beta cells of pancreatic islets

B: Genetic defects in insulin secretion

C: pancreas (pancreas) diseased or destroyed

D: diabetes by hormonal disorders (endocrinopathies)

E: diabetes by drugs or chemicals (drugs, poisons)

Q: Infections

G: unusual forms of immune-mediated diabetes

H: other genetic syndromes associated with diabetes

Pregnancy diabetes (gestational diabetes)

Taking regular doses of aspirin cannot only lower your risk for heart attack, but also decrease your chances of bowel cancer, says a recent report.  A low dose of aspirin, 75mg, which is the same dose recommended to take against heart attack, can also greatly reduce your risk for bowel cancer.

The report examines data developed over 20 years and also reveals that using the drug for a time of at least five years provides defence for a prolonged extent.  The results are based on studies of more than 14,000 people.

It has been found that the aspirin prohibits effects of proteins associated with many types of cancer.  It is now being suggested that preventive aspirin treatment become part of the regimen of the Government’s screening programme on bowel cancer.

Other studies have suggested that aspirin could be beneficial to people seeking to avoid bowel, breast, and prostate cancer.  This study on bowel cancer is viewed as definitive.

Many people ingest aspirin everyday as a sort of elixir against heart attack and other possible health problems.  This now seems a reasonable measure.  There has been a push for a sort of blanket prescribing of aspirin as a preventative for all sorts of health ailments, but aspirin has its side effects too.

You can’t just willy-nilly take aspirin, say some experts, because of stomach bleeding and ulcer proclivities.  The risks associated with taking aspirin should be weighed by your doctor before you develop any sort of routine for taking the drug.

Two men who made nearly £250,000 with an illegal fertilization service will not have to serve immediate jail time.  The two men, Ricky Gage and Nigel Woodforth, were given a nine-month sentence, two years suspended.  The men ran their illegal online service out of Woodforth’s basement.

They were convicted in Southwark Crown Court on counts of providing sperm even though they had no license and no third party agreement.  It was the very first case of this type to be prosecuted.  Apparently, around 800 women registered with the online service, which was run under names like First4Fertility and Sperm Direct Limited.

The website introduced women wanting to conceive and would be donors.  The men were turned in by a client who claimed that their services were unprofessional.  It was found later that they had no license to provide sperm.  They claim they didn’t need a license, as they were just a referral service.

The trouble began with one woman who was hoping that she and her partner could have a child when she ordered sperm from the First4Fertilty website.  She paid an £80 fee to join and another £300 to cover the cost of the service per menstrual cycle.  She also paid a courier £150 per sperm delivery, £50 of that was to go to the donor.

When she attempted self-insemination and did not get pregnant, she paid First4Fertility another £300 and planned to receive another donation the next month.  When she received a copy of a doctor’s report with the man’s name clearly visible, she requested a refund.

It was at this time that it was found out the company did have proper licensing under a 1990 law.

The noise at your workplace can increase your risk of heart attack, especially if you are a young male smoker.  This was determined by a recent study that researched the effects of a noisy workplace on labourers.  If the noise is continual and well above normal volume it leads to much increased stress.

Individuals who are stressed are likely to smoke more, eat more, and exercise less.  All of these factors are strong indicators of heart disease and, therefore, loud noise in the workplace can lead to a higher risk of heat disease.

Participants were separated into those workers who had to endure persistent loud noise three months running and those who didn’t.  Loud noise was determined to be sound that caused the participant to have to speak above normal talking levels in order to be heard.

Those who suffered the loud noise were more than twice as likely to suffer cardiac problems and heart disease.  Those who didn’t suffer the noise did not see any rise in the chances for heart disease and cardiac problems.

Certainly other factors, like smoking and obesity, can play into cardiac problems as well.  Those with such conditions need to be doubly aware and adjust their lifestyle for a better chance to avoid heart attack.

There are many jobs in which back pain may quickly become a chronic condition for workers.  This is because the back is one of the primary areas of the body that is injured due to the fragile structure of the spine.  In fact, there are many occupational backaches that actually can stem from a work accident that may have gone unnoticed at the time but still has a long term effect.  In fact, some people never make the connection that a work accident may lead to occupational backache problems for the rest of their lives.

There are many jobs that are much higher risk for occupational backache, most of which fall into the category of physical labour.  Road work, construction work, plumbing work, cement work, ground work, and other types of physical labour are considered to be high risk when it comes to work accident occurrences.  Due to the amount of lifting, bending, and physical exertion that is required on a daily basis occupational backache problems are quite likely and many people end up dealing with chronic backaches for the rest of their lives.

Having said that, it is also true that even office jobs can lead to work related back pain, for example sitting stationary for hours at a computer can over time bring on a variety of back problems.

Many more people end up with chronic arthritis in their backs from the stress that their back faces daily.  In fact, it is the daily stress on the body that can often lead one to have a work accident because the body can only take so much stress before it breaks down and a simple mistake can lead to large unfortunate results

Sometimes there may not be a direct person or incident to blame as some work accident instances do not have a clear cut cause but are the result or a series of problems.  For example, if something happens along a factory line then a combination of mechanical and human error may be to blame for a work accident.  On the other hand if you are working outdoors and an accident occurs it may be seen as an act of god, which of course cannot be predicted or planned for.  Regardless, if you are on the time clock then your employer is still responsible for taking care of your injury.

This same line of thought is true when it comes to occupational backache.  Although one work accident may not the sole cause of a backache, hard physical work over time can lead to occupational backache that leaves your life changed forever as you must deal with a state of pain and suffering throughout the course of your life.  In the future with age the backache grows worse so may be the time to approach your employer about dealing with the health issue at hand.

The Government will spend 60 million pounds in an attempt to save 3000 lives per year from bowel cancer.  The money is to be spent on a new screening programme wherein 1200 experts will be added to the current NHS count.

All of this is part of a 164 million pound grant that will see the NHS reorganised to offer better cancer care.  There will also be 50 million pounds spent on life extending drugs that have been unavailable in the UK up to now.

The Prime Minister is attempting to meet a goal to make the country a world leader in cancer survival.

All of this centres around Flexi-scope procedure, which is a process that is highly valuable in bowel cancer detection and prevention.  The procedure will be added to the NHS screening programme with diligence.  Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland are expected to quickly follow with approval for the procedure, also.

It is noteworthy to recognize that almost 30,000 residents of the UK develop bowel cancer every year and that more than 16,000 of that number will die.
